COUNSEL
KING'S COUNSEL 1982LSO CERTIFIED SPECIALIST — CONSTRUCTION LAWONTARIO 1969ALBERTA 1980
OFFICE675 Cochrane Dr, 600 West Tower, Markham ON
When a construction project fails, the question for the lender is whether its security survives. Stanley Naftolin answers it — liens, trust claims, bonding and mortgage priority.
BIOGRAPHY
Stanley chairs the firm's Construction Group. Across five decades and hundreds of client mandates he has become one of Canada's recognized authorities on construction law — and on the creditor questions that decide it: liens, trust claims, bonding, mortgage priorities, insolvency and bankruptcy. His insistence on understanding the details of every case before him is the quality colleagues and clients cite first.
He is as often the neutral as the advocate. Frequently requested as mediator and arbitrator in construction disputes — and named project mediator in several construction contracts — he is known for steering complex, multi-party disputes to resolution.
A mentor to young practitioners and to the profession at large, he taught the Law Society's Bar Admission Course from 1970 to 1980; a generation of Ontario construction counsel first learned the field in his classroom. He has published widely, including in The Construction Law Reports, where he formerly sat on the editorial board.
Called to the bar in Ontario and in Alberta, he practises across the firm's Toronto and Calgary offices — a K.C. licensed at both ends of KSI Law's national footprint.
