Litigation as a means to the client’s objective, not an end in itself — strategy built around the forum, the incentives and the consequences for the organization.
Alex is a partner and litigator whose practice is centred on management-side labour and employment law. He represents unionized and non-unionized employers in litigation, labour arbitrations, proceedings before the Ontario Labour Relations Board and human rights matters. His broader practice includes civil and commercial litigation, construction labour relations and administrative proceedings — disputes whose consequences often reach beyond the immediate claim to an organization’s operations, labour relations or dealings with a regulator.
He has appeared at every level of court in Ontario, as well as the Federal Court and Federal Court of Appeal, and before labour, human rights and other administrative tribunals. He acts in appeals and applications for judicial review arising from labour, regulatory and administrative proceedings.
Alex’s matters often involve legal, operational and institutional considerations that cannot be separated from one another. He develops the strategy around the client’s broader objective — taking account of the forum, the other side’s incentives and the consequences of the dispute for the organization.
Before joining a management-side practice, he began his career at a Toronto litigation boutique and later founded and operated his own civil and employment litigation firm — experience that informs his practical understanding of the pressures facing business owners and professionals in litigation. He was called to the Ontario bar in 2014.
